Mark Bartley
Sandhills studios is owned and run by Mark Bartley and it was his idea to set up a high quality pro studio in Liverpool which would also appeal to new young up and coming bands in the area as well as established artists. Although Mark leaves the engineering side to Al he is still very much involved in the day to day running of the studio and all future plans/developments. Mark is an advocate for upgrading gear so keep checking our equipment list as it is unlikely to be the same month to month!
Al Groves
A vibrant young engineer whose CV includes some of Liverpool's premier bands, Al sits at the heart of Sandhills Studio. Starting off his career recording his own bands and self-produced projects, he very quickly progressed onto assisting students and some of the local colleges, before setting up his own home studio. When the oppurtunity came to set up a commercial studio, he leapt at the chance and after co-designing/building Sandhills, he now holds the position of House Engineer.
During his time there, Al has worked with a massive range of bands, from Indie-poppers The Vera's, riff-laden rockers Blynd Zenith, pop-reggae groovers The Cordels, pyschadelia-driven Mirrorball FC, right the way through to solo singer/songwriter Adam Melvin and solo rap artist Usman Majid. Al's passion is for working with honest, live bands, and enjoys nothing more than watching a group of musicians grooving together in the studio. He is an advocate of old-school production techniques being married to new-age technology, and his knowledge around Pro Tools is second to none! He is also a strong believer in getting the right vibe for the song, and his love of lava-lamps and incense shows this!
